61 The Pony Pasture
In the year 2000, the Crabill family realized the dream of designing and building their own home.
Chris Crabill, a classic craftsman, has been professionally building cabinets and doing exquisite trim work for more than 30 years. Chris was resolute to build an energy efficient home with no-to-low exterior maintenance while Catherine, his wife, was determined to capture an ‘Old World’ feel. These two views merged into a superbly energy efficient, poured concrete, (ICF), home wrapped in stucco and stone, unabashedly masculine, inside and out.
With windows and doors deeply set into 12” walls, this home exudes the strength of a fortress while passive solar light fills rooms with radiant warmth.
The addition of a whimsically functional chicken coop and organic garden reinforce the spirit of strength and self-sufficiency.
Many finishing features have yet to be completed, (glass block floors, window and door trim, etc.); nevertheless, the grace, strength and beauty of this unique residence is a treat

Wiggins Avenue Subdivision
The Lancaster / Northumberland Habitat for Humanity will be turning 20 in 2016. As staple of the Northern Neck, LNHFH is grateful to be the honoree of the Parade of Homes. Since the founding of the affiliate in 1996, it has built 17 homes. On March 25, 2015 LNHFH broke ground on their 18th home, located in their Wiggins Avenue subdivision in Kilmarnock.
LNHFH is engaged in improving the lives of their neighbors, and strengthening communities one house at a time. They believe their method of constructing homes and selecting new owners is giving people in the area a hand up, not
a handout. They are careful to select “partners” men and women who are responsible workers and citizens who simply need help in making their first home purchase.
The featured home house 17 is in the Wiggins Avenue subdivision, and was finished May 2015. The home is a single family home built to be energy efficient. The home features three bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a front and back deck and a shed.
The home is owned by Ranisha and Jentre Carter. The Carters worked alongside Habitat mentors and volunteers on the construction of their home. They plan to be alongside them during construction of house 18.
