In early May, people throughout the 98th Legislative District and the Commonwealth of Virginia learned of the retirement of Delegate Harvey B. Morgan. Known as the conscience of the General Assembly, Delegate Morgan served his district with distinction for 32 years.
Members of the Animal Resource Foundation (ARF) approached Harvey and asked if he would allow them to honor him with a roast/toast affair, Harvey on the Bar-B, to benefit the life-saving programs of this 501(c) (3) organization. His response was typical Morgan...“Of course, if you think it will help this splendid organization.”
ARF operates an affordable, high quality spay/neuter clinic which has spayed, neutered and vaccinated over 14,000 dogs and cats in 3 years, preventing the unwanted births of literally hundreds of thousands of puppies and kittens. Working closely with citizens, animal control agencies, animal shelters, and rescue groups, ARF provides low cost spay/neuter and medical care to reduce the overpopulation of dogs and cats and to increase the chances for these animals to find their forever homes or stay in existing homes and live healthier, happier lives. ARF depends on donations to help keep the surgery prices as low as possible to make it affordable for those who need it most. ARF also assists homeless animals in local shelters and rescues by providing some services pro bono and assisting with special medical care to increase the chances for the animals to find their forever homes.
Several of ARF “alumni” are:
… Copper, a handsome red and white male hound mix from a local shelter was neutered at ARF and is now saying, “I’m ready for my new home!”
… Scotty, a distinguished, American bull dog mix, was neutered by a local shelter and went to a rescue group
in the DC area, from which he was adopted into his forever home!
… Olivia, an adorable red and white beagle was spayed by a local shelter and adopted!
… Buddy, a funny little Chihuahua/pug/beagle says getting neutered helped him find his best friend!
… Biscuit, a darling little terrier, was spayed at ARF before heading for her new home and
… Lulu, a charming puggle owned by a Middlesex family, was ARF’s 14,000th patient
Harvey on the Bar-B will be held at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) on Saturday, December 3, at 6:30 P.M. Tickets, which include both the reception and the roast, are $50 and may be reserved by contacting
