Make Your House Your Home

With Spring here and Summer just around the corner, it has never been a better time for outdoor home improvements. I am very excited to say that our resources section is chocked full of outdoor solutions for your home. Between these covers you will find information on
landscaping, riprap, and pavers, as well as the resources to hire a qualified person in these fields.

We are also enthused by our story on kitchen remodels and renovations. In most homes, the kitchen is where meals are prepared, friends and family gather, and many evenings are spent doing homework with the kids. With so much time being spent in the kitchen, it is important that this space be your own. We have highlighted many ways to recreate your kitchen into a warm, inviting space to compliment your home.

Why stop at just remodeling your kitchen? Our before and after piece, “Makeover in Montross,” shows the many benefits of remodeling your living space. We look at how a few changes in texture, color, and lighting can bring about a world of difference in your living space.

In this issue you will also find stories on two feature homes; Cedar Point and Water’s Edge. Additionally, we have a feature article on a great new subdivision in Irvington, Grace Hill. Couple these with our listing agents and we really have become the ideal location to find your dream house.

The great news is we didn’t stop there. Everyone on the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula will agree that it is the culture of this area that sets it apart. To encompass this culture we also have feature articles on Middlesex’s Historic Garden Week, Aylett Country Day School, and the Northern Neck Gourmet in Warsaw.

The ladies working on Historic Garden Week throughout Virginia are truly spectacular. Homes and gardens will be open throughout Virginia April 19-27, 2008. In this issue we will be highlighting the homes on showcase for the Middlesex Historic Garden Week tour.

We also have a great educational system here in our region. There are many fine schools, both public and private, throughout the area. Where else can kids get so much first hand knowledge on marine life and history! We have highlighted Aylett Country Day School to give you additional information on the history and people of this region, along with the wonderful learning opportunities available.

To fully understand an area one must have an idea of what the locals do. For this reason we have included an article on the Northern Neck Gourmet. In Warsaw, the Northern Neck Gourmet is the place to be for lunch and on the weekends for their special events. We felt by offering this story we could share with all of our readers this fine treasure we have found, and hopefully give you another favorite lunch destination.

You’ll find all of this and more in our second issue of the House & Home Magazine. Please read and enjoy the articles as much as we have enjoyed putting them together. We hope they will give you great ideas on finding a house and making it your home. — wc
