As winter fades and the first bright blooms begin to sway in the breeze, Gloucester, Virginia, prepares to welcome thousands of visitors for the 40th Annual Daffodil Festival on March 28 and 29, 2026. Set against the charming backdrop of Gloucester Main Street, this beloved spring celebration promises a weekend filled with live music, unique vendors, delicious food, historical reenactments, and family-friendly fun. Whether you are a longtime local or visiting for the first time, the Daffodil Festival is a joyful reminder of what makes Gloucester so special.
A TRADITION ANCHORED IN HISTORY
Gloucester’s love affair with the daffodil dates back centuries. When settlers first sailed into the area in the 1600s, they brought with them daffodil bulbs from their English gardens.
They quickly discovered that the region’s mild climate and fertile soil were perfect for growing these cheerful blooms. Over time, daffodils spread from the grand gardens of Gloucester’s historic homes to the surrounding fields, eventually earning the county the title “Daffodil Capital of America” in the 1930s and 40s. Daffodils became a major economic driver for the area, loading up crates of bulbs by steamboat for distribution across the coast. Though the daffodil industry has ebbed and flowed over the years, the flower’s significance in Gloucester has remained strong. In 1987, a dedicated group of volunteers, in partnership with Gloucester Parks, Recreation & Tourism, revived the community’s spring celebration, creating what we now know as the Daffodil Festival. Celebrating four decades, the festival continues to grow, drawing visitors from across the region to admire the blooms and partake in the festivities. The 2026 festival pays homage to this history with the theme “Anchored in Tradition”.
The 2026 festival promises a full schedule of entertainment for all ages. Multiple stages along Main Street will feature live performances throughout the weekend, with local bands, dance groups, and solo artists bringing energy and variety to the celebration. Bobby Blackhat headlines Saturday, and The Deloreans close out the weekend on Sunday. More than 250 vendor booths will line the street, offering handcrafted jewelry, artwork, home décor, specialty foods, and plenty of daffodil-themed treasures. It is the perfect place to find something unique while supporting local artisans and businesses.
Bring your appetite because the Daffodil Festival is a foodie’s paradise. Dozens of food vendors and trucks will offer everything from classic festival fare—like funnel cakes, kettle corn, and fresh lemonade—to gourmet dishes showcasing local ingredients. Seafood lovers can indulge in lobster rolls and crab cakes, while those with a sweet tooth can savor homemade pies and decadent desserts. No matter your taste, you will find something to satisfy your cravings.
History comes to life with reenactments and demonstrations by the 7th Virginia Regiment of the Continental Line. With authentic uniforms, weapon demonstrations, and engaging storytelling, these dedicated historians offer a vivid look at Gloucester’s colonial past. This year’s presentations will pay special tribute to the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution and the 375th Anniversary of Gloucester County.
Saturday morning at 10:00 AM, the Daffodil Festival Parade steps off along Main Street. Expect colorful floats, marching bands, community groups, and plenty of bright blooms. Arrive early to grab a good viewing spot and enjoy this vibrant display of community pride.
Immediately following the parade, head to the Main Stage for the crowning of the 2026 Daffodil Festival Queen and the presentation of festival scholarships—a heartwarming tradition that celebrates and supports local youth.
The Daffodil Festival is a family affair, with plenty of activities designed to keep kids entertained. From face painting and craft stations to inflatable bounce houses and games, there is no shortage of fun for the little ones. The Daffodil Stage will feature Reptile Talks by Jack’s Jungle four times a day, with interactive presentations featuring a variety of slithery and scaly friends. On the softer side, a petting zoo neighbors the stage.
After a brief hiatus, the Daffodil Dash 5k is back! On Sunday morning, get to the festival early to compete in a friendly, professionally timed race. Participants will receive special memorabilia and enjoy an after party at Gloucester Brewing Company. Plus, you have beat the traffic to score the best parking to enjoy the last day of the festival!
We cannot forget our four-legged friends! After opening ceremonies, head to the Daffodil Village Stage to watch the Amazing Mutt Show. A crowd favorite where pets take center stage to showcase their talents and charm. Whether it is performing impressive tricks, strutting in adorable outfits, or simply winning hearts with their overwhelming cuteness, these furry contestants never fail to entertain. Think your pet has what it takes to bring home the ribbon? Registrations will take place Saturday morning until showtime!
The Daffodil Show at Newington Baptist Church is a highlight of the weekend and is proudly sanctioned by the American Daffodil Society. Local growers and enthusiasts present stunning floral arrangements and photography showcasing the incredible variety and beauty of this beloved flower. This year, Gloucester aims to set a record with more than 3,000 blooming stems on display. Whether you are an experienced gardener or simply love spring flowers, this fragrant exhibition is not to be missed.
Before you leave, be sure to grab a little piece of the festival to remember the weekend. Annual themed shirts and hoodies will be available for purchase at Tucker Park. The annual festival print artist will be in the Courthouse Circle, signing prints for sale and sharing the inspiration behind this year’s commemorative artwork. While you are there, gather the family for a photo at the daffodil-themed festival backdrop, a perfect keepsake to capture your springtime celebration.
Parking near the festival grounds can be limited, so visitors are encouraged to park at Gloucester High School and take the convenient shuttle service to Main Street. Shuttles run regularly throughout the weekend, and a small fee applies. Children under two ride free. Comfortable walking shoes are a must for navigating the festival. Do not forget your camera to capture the beautiful daffodil displays and memorable moments!
To make the most of your visit, download the official Daffodil Festival app on iOS or Android. Save your favorite performances, receive updates, and explore an interactive vendor map to plan your weekend with ease.
For those who want to extend the festivities, two special events will follow in April. On April 11, join the Marquis de Lafayette for a Revolution Sail on the York River. On April 12, Brent and Becky’s Bulbs will host a scenic excursion along the North River exploring the history of daffodils. Lunch is included with tickets, and wine will be available for purchase.
